A one of a kind felt spectacle will be coming to Vanha Suurtori in January 2020, including an exhibition of unique felt textiles and a special workshop.
World-renowned Finnish felt artist Elina Saari is bringing her unique flair to Turku in January. Starting from the beginning of January, the Taitokeskus’s popup space will hold an exhibition of Elina’s felt jackets and accessories. At the end of the month, Elina will also organize a weekend workshop where she will guide you to the secrets of creating unique and theatrical felt hats.
– I can’t even remember when was the last time we brought our products to Turku! This will also be there first time we have organized a felt workshop there. It is really great to be able to offer something unique in such a unique environment, says Elina Saari.
Right after visiting Turku, Elina together with her partner Aki Leppänen will head out to Europe; Elina’s felt master classes will be taking place in Belgium, Netherlands and Italy.
– It is no surprise that Elina’s workshops and felting style are appealing to Europeans. I have followed her career over the years and really enjoyed her way of combining Finnish craziness, with aesthetics and design in her work. There are many felt artists in Finland, but only one Elina Saari. Elina’s felt spectacle is something that is not often seen in Turku and as such is a truly one of a kind opportunity for all locals and visitors to the city, says Tiina Aalto, executive manager of Taito Varsinais-Suomi.
